Candice Visser (SGCNZ NSSP 2000 & 2001, SGCNZ YSC 2002)
“I have a great love of Shakespeare and it all stems from my time with the Sheliah Winn Shakespeare Festival in Schools (now UOSWSF) when I was a student.”
Candice Visser participated in the Festival all through school and was chosen to be part of SGCNZ National Shakespeare Schools Production in 2000 & 2001. Then she was selected as a member of the SGCNZ Young Shakespeare Company to travel to the Globe in 2002.
There she developed a love for London. She returned to the city after a degree in Theatre studies at Waikato University, and spent 6 years working in Primary and Special Needs schools as a teacher aide, always trying to bring her love of Drama into the classroom. In 2013 she returned home to study a post-graduate diploma in Teaching – specialising in Drama. She has been working at her old high school, John Paul College in Rotorua and has taken on the role as the Regional Representive for the SGCNZ Rotorua Regional UOSWSF.
“I love that I have come full circle and now direct and help other students get the same opportunities I did.”
