Conscious of the natural nervousness of schools congregating, an alternative solution has been devised by Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ, in association with its principal videographer, to ensure its SGCNZ Regional University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festivals continue and that all the work of the students and teachers will not be wasted.

SGCNZ’s 24 Regional Festivals, scheduled throughout the country from 25 March to 8 April 2020, will take place by schools supplying their scenes on film this year.

The assessing will take place by the Assessors appointed for each region on the day scheduled for the Festival, and a 5 minute and 15 minute scene still selected for the National Festival.

It is uncertain at this stage as to whether or not the National Festival will take place physically or by film as well.

The selection of a Direct-Entry student for SGCNZ’s National Shakespeare Schools Production will also be made as previously.

Guidelines for filming are currently being produced and will be posted on SGCNZ’s and the University of Otago’s websites within the next 24 hours..

Registrations must still be made via the University’s SGCNZ Festival website: shakespeare.otago.ac.nz
