Felicity Tomkins (SGCNZ NSSP 2013, SGCNZ YSC 2014)
New Zealand-born soprano Felicity Tomkins is currently based overseas, having recently completed
her operatic training this year at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM)
under the tutelage of tenor Stuart Skelton, obtaining her Artist Diploma in Opera Vocal Performance.
Felicity recently made her Wigmore Hall debut as finalist in the Elizabeth Connell Prize held in June,
and later that month made her Cincinnati Opera debut as Military Wife/Soprano 1 in Vrebalov’s
world-stage premiere, The Knock.
At CCM, her role debuts included Madame Lidoine – Dialogues des Carmélites (Poulenc), Jeannette –
L’amant Anonyme (Bologne), and alongside her overseas studies this past 22/23 season, Felicity
was a Kentucky District Winner/Central Region Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont
Competition. This July, she was also an Opera Studio Artist at AIMS Graz (Austria) summer training
program, making her European concert debuts with the AIMS Festival Orchestra, being awarded the
Audience Prize in the AIMS Meistersinger Competition final concert.
In New Zealand, Felicity was the Runner-Up for the 2022 Lexus Song Quest, and was a Dame
Malvina Major Foundation Studio Artist with New Zealand Opera (2020). Felicity is an alumna of the
University of Waikato (MMus, BMus(Hons), BMus/BSc), The New Zealand Opera School, and has
been a Kiwi Music Scholar, a Kia Ora Foundation Patricia Pratt Scholar, and a Circle100 Scholar.
Felicity Tomkins is an alumna of Tauranga Girls’ College and participated in the 2013 and 2014
SGCNZ Bay of Plenty Regional UOSWS Festivals. She attended the SGCNZ NSSP 2013, and was
selected as a member of the SGCNZ YSC 2014, where they performed Julius Caesar at The Globe
Theatre, London.
